Welcome to BetYou. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using BetYou, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide to Us

When you create an account and use BetYou, we collect the following information:

Account Information: Email address, username, display name, and password (encrypted)
Profile Information: Username and display name visible to other users
User-Generated Content: Bet questions, vote choices, group names, and other content you create within the app
Communications: Information you provide when contacting customer support

1.2 Information Automatically Collected

When you use BetYou, we automatically collect certain information:

Usage Data: Information about how you use the app, including features accessed, bets created/voted on, groups joined, and time spent in the app
Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information
Log Data: IP address, app crashes, system activity, and the date and time of your requests
Push Notification Tokens: Device tokens to send you push notifications (only if you grant permission)

1.3 Information From Third Parties

We use Supabase as our backend service provider. Supabase may collect and store data on our behalf as described in their privacy policy. We do not share your data with any other third parties except as described in this policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide and maintain the Service: Create and manage your account, enable bet creation and voting, manage groups, and display leaderboards
Personalize your experience: Show your stats, track your win streaks, and display relevant content
Send notifications: Alert you about new bets, closed bets, friend requests, and other app activities (only if you enable notifications)
Facilitate social features: Connect you with friends, allow profile sharing, and enable group interactions
Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns, identify bugs, and develop new features
Ensure security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
Comply with legal obligations: Respond to legal requests and prevent harm
Communicate with you: Send important updates about the Service and respond to your inquiries

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 With Other Users

BetYou is a social app. Some of your information is visible to other users:

Public Profile Information: Your username, display name, and overall stats (total bets, win percentage, current streak) are visible to anyone who has your profile link
Within Groups: Group members can see your username, display name, group-specific stats, bets you've created, and that you voted (but not what you voted for until the bet closes)
After Bet Closes: Group members can see whether you voted correctly or incorrectly and your vote choice
Friend Lists: Your friends can see that you're friends with them

3.2 With Service Providers

We share information with trusted service providers who help us operate the Service:

Supabase: Provides our backend infrastructure, database, authentication, and hosting services
Apple: Processes push notifications through Apple Push Notification service (APNs)

These service providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

3.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to:

Comply with legal obligations, court orders, or government requests
Protect and defend our rights or property
Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing
Protect the personal safety of users or the public
Protect against legal liability

3.4 Business Transfers

If BetYou is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will provide notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. Specific retention periods:

Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
Bet History: Closed bets visible for 14 days, then archived but retained in our database for historical purposes
Usage Logs: Retained for up to 90 days for debugging and analytics
Support Communications: Retained for up to 2 years

When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we're required to retain it for legal or security purposes.

5. Your Rights and Choices

5.1 Push Notifications

You can opt out of push notifications by disabling them in your device settings. Note that this will not affect in-app notifications.

5.2 Data Access and Portability

You have the right to:

Request a copy of your personal data
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data (subject to legal exceptions)
Object to processing of your data
Request data portability

5.3 Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time within the app settings. Deleting your account will:

Remove you from all groups
Delete your profile information
Remove your votes from active bets
Anonymize your past contributions

Note: Your username may remain visible on historical bets you created, but will not be linked to a profile.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information:

Encryption: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS/SSL
Password Security: Passwords are hashed and encrypted using industry-standard methods
Access Controls: Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only
Regular Security Audits: We regularly review our security practices and infrastructure
Secure Infrastructure: We use Supabase, which maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

BetYou is not intended for children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@normillapps.com. If we discover that a child under 18 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it immediately.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with GDPR requirements.

Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
Sending you a notification through the app or via email
